Wordstock—Portland’s annual literary festival—is back, featuring seven author stages, a book fair, a children’s activity area, and workshops for emerging writers. W+K loves to read (we have our very own inner-office lending library to prove it) and you can catch us in the mix of festivities throughout the weekend.
For 5th consecutive year, W+K 12 has been tasked by the good people at Wordstock to help give the festival a new look and feel. This year, the 12ers decided to make reading a little sexier; spinning the Wordstock website into an eclectic destination for storytellers and story lovers alike.
Complete with lacquer finishes and illuminating neon colors, the site contains bookishly spicy items like flirty lit buttons and a feisty teaser. Festival-goers can also enjoy a new, adults only Red-Chair District as well as experience literary ecstasy on the WordStock Hotline where participating authors “talk wordy” to you on the other end.
Additionally, W+K Tomorrow’s Sharp Stuff will be at Wordstock embarking on their first experiment: to create a book in 2 days. In collaboration with the Espresso Book Machine at Powell’s Books, the team will collect contributions on Saturday, and print a book overnight for distribution on Sunday.
The book will be titled “American Dreamers: Wordstock Edition,” a prelude to Sharp Stuff’s first release due out in mid-Novermber titled American Dreamers, which will be a collection of stories, essays, art, hacks, games and interviews that explore and share our dreams for a brighter future from the optimists, mavericks and mad inventors who believe we can create a better world.
If you’re interested in contributing to the book over the weekend, stop by the Sharp Stuff booth (#1103) at Wordstock, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. 100 copies of the book will be given away for free on Sunday at the booth – so stop on by!
